What is SUP?
SUP is short for Stand Up Paddleboard. SUP YOGA combines regular yoga with yoga on a SUP board, which is essentially a floating yoga mat.
History of SUP
It is believed that modern stand up paddleboards originated in the beaches of Hawaii in the 1960s. However, in the last 10 years SUPing has been gaining popularity in the United States and all over the world. In fact, Austin, Texas, has been called the “SUP capital of the world”.
About Water Dog’s “Floating Yoga Mat”
The SUP board is essentially your floating yoga mat. The paddleboards Water Dog uses for class are beautiful SUP ATX Viking fitness boards. These boards are specifically designed for doing yoga and fitness on the water. The entire board is covered in EVA memory foam which is a grippy material for the floating mats. The boards are wide, lightweight and stable to keep you working out while floating on the water.
Where Does Water Dog Do SUP Yoga?
Water Dog has a gorgeous location in the new boat slips in the Corpus Christi Marina near downtown Corpus Christi. The location in the bay is quiet and protected from much of the strong winds Corpus Christi is known for. The area is shallow, safe and semi-private.
About Water Dog’s SUP Yoga
At the start of each class, Water Dog will provide safety and basic paddle instructions. There will be a short paddle warm up to the fixed line or anchoring system that your board will attach to. Generally, Water Dog classes will start with getting yogis comfortable on the boards in easy stabilizing poses and then work up to vinyasas and more challenging poses. In addition, you will be on the water in the beautiful Corpus Christi Marina connecting with nature and the water during your yoga practice!
